A comprehensive eye exam looks at how well you see and checks the health of your eyes. Our doctors will make sure you have an updated prescription for new glasses or contacts, as your eyes can change. In addition to checking your vision, our optometrists will look at the health of your eyes. Our optometrists will check the back of your eyes to monitor for cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other eye-related disease. Your eyes are often dilated with drops at a comprehensive exam, which can make you sensitive to light. Be sure to bring a pair of sunglasses with you!
All diabetics must get their eyes examined because high blood sugar can damage the eyes. Patients with diabetes are susceptible to a condition called diabetic retinopathy, which will cause blindness if left untreated. Some people find out they have diabetes from their preventative care eye exams. The sooner diabetes is treated, the more chance you have of saving your sight.
From age 5 and above, Optometric Specialty Group can provide service to your children, hoping to catch any eye-related conditions from an early age. With difficulties with perception, your child may be adversely affected in his ability to learn and acquire knowledge. We recommend that you schedule eye examinations so that you can better ensure your child is seeing clearly.
